ADULT MENTAL HEALTH ADVOCACY SERVICES
Matrix prides itself on offering a
totally professional one to one, confidential,
impartial and independent advocacy service to both in-patients and
adults in the community.
We can assist clients in a variety of different
ways. For example, we can inform patients of their rights under the
Mental Health Act, attend and represent clients in ward rounds, discuss
treatment issues with medical staff or request section 17 leave on their
behalf.
Further to these, we can assist in matters connected to their
home life, for example, discussions pertaining to household issues or
assist contact with family members.
Where another organisation
would be more appropriate to assist, we put clients in touch with them, for
example the CAB for benefits advice or solicitors for various areas of
legal advice.
In adult mental health we will usually work to an
‘instructed’ model of advocacy. That is, we will work ONLY to
YOUR
instructions. The only exception to this is where we are asked to do
something that would jeopardize the professional integrity of the
advocate and the organization. In this instance, we would not be able to
accept client instructions.
