RUNNYMEDE COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH ADVOCACY SERVICE

The aim of the Mental Health Community Advocacy Service is to provide advocacy for people with a severe and enduring mental health problem who are living in the community.

Support will be given to clients to enable and empower them to have their voice heard, whether it is to request a service, review a service provided, or to complain about a service received.

The Service will provide individual one to one Advocacy. The scheme does not provide group advocacy, neither does it take up service user involvement issues, over and above an individuals own concerns.

Examples of support given include;

  • Help with preparation for meetings

  • Liaison with Statutory agencies

  • Support at CPA and other meetings

  • Information about Community Services

  • Complaints about care,

  • Information about medication,

  • Help with access to records,

  • Support with benefits,

  • Information and support with housing issues.

The advocate can help with many other issues as well. Please speak to them to see if they can provide the help you want.

Availability

Normally, the advocate covering Runnymede is available Monday to Friday in normal office hours. Other times and dates may be possible by arrangement.

Meetings & Home Visits

The advocate currently has no fixed office space in this area and therefore mutually agreeable meeting places can be decided upon, for example:

  • Virginia Lodge (5 minutes from Egham railway station)

  • Council Offices

  • Community Mental health Team premises

  • Advocacy Office in St. Francis House, St. Peters Hospital site, Chertsey.

  • Shopping centres, cafes, etc.

Although not normal procedure, it may be possible to arrange a home visit if client commitments/restrictions mean that they cannot leave their home. This arrangement can only take place once certain details have been arranged, and as a result may cause delays before the advocate is available for the appointment.
