There is a very strong carers group on the ward.  They take an active part in the ongoing care and regularly ensure that activities such as music and visual stimulation take place.

Children wishing to visit relatives on the ward may do so.  Please advise a member of staff before visit.

Currently there is not a ward information booklet – please ask any member of staff for the ward policy.

Ward Rounds

This is a weekly meeting of staff involved in your care at which your consultant Psychiatrist will be present.  You and your family may attend these, this is a good chance to discuss plans for treatment.  The nurses on the ward should advise you of the day, date and time.

Laundry

Patients laundry is done at the hospital.  It is important that personal belongings are clearly marked for easy identification.

Smoking is not permitted anywhere on the ward.  There is a garden attached to the ward where patients relatives may smoke.

Religious Needs

The hospital chaplaincy visits the ward on a regular basis.  This is if you have Faith or no particular Faith.  Walton Churches also operate an outreach service.  Please ask the ward manager to contact the chaplaincy service for you.  Or call 01932 872000 for the on call chaplain.

Shops

There is a League of Friends Shop situated in the main entrance of the building.  Open from 10 –4 and staffed by volunteers.  Confectionary, hot and cold drinks, greeting cards and some second hand books are available to buy.

Community and Carers meetings

There are currently no plans for a community meeting on the ward, this is due to the severity of the dementia experienced by most of the patients.  On the last Tuesday of every month, the Burwood Carers group meet to discuss issues pertaining to the ward and patients.  This group is well attended by carers and their families.  Senior members from the trust are also invited to these meetings.
