Ward
Haliford
Ward is an 18 bedded ward for people from the Spelthorne area.
The
ward is an acute admission / assessment ward for people with either a
functional or organic mental health problem who are over 65 years of
age. Care is provided for people with known or suspected mental health
problems that need intensive care that cannot be provided in the
community. Admissions can last a few days or many months depending on
many factors including the severity of illness and response to
medication.
The
ward has nursing staff on the ward 24 hours a day. In addition, there
are doctors (psychiatrists), occupational therapists, social workers,
psychologists and others who are involved in providing treatment and
care.
All
patients have their own room.

Monday to Friday 3.30pm to 8.30pm
Saturday & Sunday 10am to 8.30pm
If
children wish to visit the ward, the responsible adult should first
check with ward staff that this is appropriate.

Medication
Medication is
usually given out at 8am (9am on weekends), 12.45pm, 6pm and 10pm daily.
Ward Rounds
This is the weekly
meeting of staff involved in your care at which your Consultant
Psychiatrist will be present. You will be asked to attend and discuss
the plans for your treatment. The nurses on the ward should tell you the
day and time of your consultants ward round.
Smoking
There is a no
smoking policy on the ward except in the smoking lounge.
Religious/Spiritual Needs
The
hospital has a chaplaincy team. There is a chapel in the main Ashford
Hospital site. The Chaplain will also visit the ward on a regular basis.
Special Needs
If you have special
needs such as diet, interpreting, hearing, visual, physical or other,
speak to the nursing staff.
Food
Food
is served in the dining room. Breakfast is at 7.30, Lunch is at 12pm and
supper at 5.00pm
The
ward has a small kitchen that can be used to make drinks and snacks.
Please ask staff if you would like to access the kitchen
Shops
There
is no shop within the mental health unit. However if you are able to
leave the ward, there is a small shop near the main hospital entrance.
In addition, Tesco's is situated across the road.
Laundry
The ward has a
washing machine for everyone to use while on the ward.
Activities
The
Occupational Therapist on the ward offers a full programme of activities
during the morning and afternoons. Most of these activities take place
on the ward, so everyone can participate.
Community Meetings
This
is a weekly meeting on the ward to allow staff and patients to discuss
ward matters in general.
