Older Persons Advocacy
- Hayworth House
Hayworth
House is a stand alone building beyond Bournewood House away from the
main hospital. The trust approached the Rita Hayworth Society to ask
for permission for the building to bear her name. Ms Hayworth lived
with dementia herself in the latter years of her life.
This
ward is a dementia assessment ward for people with an organic mental
health problem over the age of 65. The ward also provides continuing
care for older people with known or specific mental health problems.
Care is provided for people with known or suspected mental health
problem that need intensive care.
The
ward has a nursing staff on 24 hours a day. In addition there are
doctors, social workers, occupational therapists and others who are
involved in the care and treatment of the patients.
All
patients have their own rooms. The rooms consist of three to one
bathroom called ‘bungalows’. The beds all have pressure mattresses to
ease the discomfort and possible prevention of bedsores. There are 22
beds in total.
Smoking
is not permitted in Hayworth but patients may smoke in the garden.
