last for a few days, weeks or months depending on many factors,
including the severity of illness and response to medication.

If
patients are able to leave the ward unassisted, there is a restaurant
adjoining the day hospital, which is also on the ground floor. This is
not an extension of the food the NHS provides, but an outside caterer
providing the service.
Community
meetings on the ward are held sporadically with Partners for Positive
Change, the most recent one being in February of this year. There are
plans to make this a more regular occurrence. The patients on the ward
can get together with an independent chairperson and discuss any issues
on the ward i.e. services, food, environment or any other issues that
may arise pertaining to the ward. PPC are currently working on an
information booklet for Spenser Ward to provide as much info as possible
for patients and their carers, after admission to the ward. You can
contact the Partners’ Organisation on: 01932 875103.
